How to Make Puto Flan

How to Make Puto Flan

Ingredients
  • 385g condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp calamansi juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 pcs egg yolks
  • 2 pcs egg whites
  • FOR THE PUTO
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 pcs egg whites
  • 3 tbsp baking powder
  • 400g evaporated milk
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • food color (optional)
Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks and egg whites.
  2. Add the condensed milk, vanilla extract, and calamansi juice.
  3. Whisk until all ingredients are well-blended.
  4. Set aside.
  5. FOR THE PUTO
  6. In another mixing bowl, put the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and sugar. Use a strainer to break up clumps. Mix until well-blended.
  7. Add the egg whites and evaporated milk then mix until well-blended.
  8. Add the melted butter, pinch of salt and the optional food color then mix until well-blended.
  9. Set aside.
  10. COMBINING THE FLAN AND PUTO MIXTURES
  11. Brush some melted butter in each of your puto cup molders.
  12. When the steamer is ready, put-in the cup molders.
  13. Put the flan mixture in each cup molder. Only fill the bottom portion of the molders.
  14. Steam them for about 5 minutes.
  15. Transfer the cup molders to a plate or tray with water to let them cool down.
  16. This time, fill each cup with the puto mixture.
  17. Steam them again for about 8 to 10 minutes.
  18. Transfer them again to a plate or tray with water to let them cool down.
  19. Remove each cooked puto flan from the cup molders.
  20. Serve and enjoy your puto flan!
